Uhhh….Did Somebody Say "#1 Starter?"

Against the Marlins today, in his final Spring Training warm-up, O’s Opening Day starter Jeremy Guthrie had quite an adventure:

4 IP

10 H

10 R

That gives him 18 R and 24 H allowed in 15.1 innings this spring.

Which doesn’t include his awesome shelling by international competition at the WBC.

Things are not looking up…

I know it’s hard to be paitent with 10+ years of constant losing, but are tops in baseball for pitching prospect, so it’s only a matter of time, I don’t expect big things from the O’s this year, the bats are gonna be on fire and the outfield is going to be outstanding, but the pitching is non-existant this year, patience, my friend.

Well, reports have indicated that the bullpen will be one of the strongest in the MLB if Sherrill, Ray, and Walker are healthy. Remember, this was the WEAKEST part of the team the last 3 years. It’s good to see the organization invest in these guys. However, the starting pitching is something to be desired. Lack of good starters will put too much strain on the bullpen. So, what may look good on paper (ie. the bullpen) will in reality be one of the worst in baseball.

Sorry, not Walker. I meant Jim Johnson.
